Nice German Restaurant in the Hudson Valley. Nice beer selection and German and Polish dishes. Outside biergarten for the summer.
Authentic German Cuisine. First, the atmosphere & decor is spectacular!!! Each room is decorated beautifully with artwork, antiques, beer steins, cuckoo clocks, etc... All of which makes you feel like you've just crossed the Atlantic and landed in the Black Forest of Germany. They offer a wide variety of authentic German dishes as well as some traditional Polish fare. Make sense since the owners are of German & Polish decent. The food was abundant and delicious! For everything you get, I was surprised at how reasonable the pricing was. Service was outstanding, the staff very knowledgeable & friendly. If you're looking to expand your pallet and try something different, it worth the drive to check out this charming place with so much history.I'll certainly be back!!!
The best German experience you can get. Food, beer, atmosphere... 10/10 recommend.
We usually love going here every Octoberfest. Until this year. We went on a Saturday. It was horribly understaffed, and they refused to serve us food (at 5pm). They had 1 server servicing the ENTIRE beer garden. Who was a nice guy, and wasnt his fault. The chef stated he was "overwhelmed."
Great food great service great atmosphere
I like this place. Food is on point. Staff helpful and friendly. Will be back
The Black Forest Mill will be open on New Year's Eve/day. Call and make reservations, spots are filling up. Hope you can join us!
The food wasn't terrible but you have to wait forever to get it. We waited over 2 and half hours for our food, and it took the waitress over 20 minutes to come over and even ask for our drink order. We strictly told our waitress that my mother was allergic to mushrooms and she brings out her dish and it is covered in mushrooms and all she said was that the gravy that they put over the potato (but was really was all over the food) had mushrooms and she'd only take back the potato and not the whole dish. Terrible.
Alot of food for the pricing and great beer! Definitely coming back here soon!
Love the live music, atmosphere, good bar menu and German beers on tap
Original owners are preparing to open up on February 21, 2018. Celebrating "44" years in business this German Restaurant is wunderbar. With a authentic warm , comfortable atmosphere you will feel like you're in Germany.
Outstanding
I have been here several times however new ownership is not going to keep this place open long. Sat at the bar, it was a Friday night and not busy, bar pretty empty. Bartender turned out to be the owner. Terrible slow service even for water. Ordered bar food and the German potato salad arrived room temperature not warmed like it should be the bratwurst was boiled not grilled the saue5was from a jar. Nothing good to say except my date was fun company. Got up to leave and the chair fell apart. Sad. Previos owner and chef so much better. Doubt they will be in business much longer.
Loved the German food and atmosphere.
Diarrhea and bad service. Both my wife and I got sick from the goulash. We were there for 3 hours and never got bread and never once got our water refilled. It too then an hour to bring out a salad which was doused in oil. We went here a few years ago and it was good but after this I don't think we will go back.
You can't beat the amount of food you get for the price. The German beer selection they have on tap is great. The food is delicious.
Great German food selection. Unfortunately the owner is retiring. Sometime soon they're hopefully going to reopen under new management.
Great authentic German food and beer. Music many nights....very festive atmosphere. Can get real busy during Oktoberfest, but fun place year round. Bring your appetite.
The Food at this Restaurant is always Consistent and Very good.I will definitely be back soon.Nice Atmosphere also!
Called to make reservations and good thing we did .Had an excellent dinner, service was great and really enjoyed our dinner.People make comments about accordion player but I found it a delight with an old world style background instead of loud music drowning out conversation.Beer was good, food was good and look forward to returning.Ausgezeichnet!
Food and service were excellent. A very pleasant experience for the group of 8 I was part of.
Rather disappointed with the new change in ownership. Called to make a reservation and specifically asked if the accordion player would be there. Was told “yes”, but arrived to find that he wouldn’t be there. Very disappointing because I took mom there on a night when the accordion player was supposed to be there. Also, new ownership has whittled down their menu... no more snail soup, for starters. 😢. Rather disappointing overall..... Response to reply: the current owners may have been the original owners 40 years ago, but they have not owned the restaurant the whole time ... they just reacquired it last year. Even so, if your standard entertainment isn’t going to be there, then when specifically asked about it, be honest and say “no”.
We came a couple of times last year and we fell in love when th this place. We heard it was bought back by the original owners and it is definitely not what it used to be. Friendly staff but very disorganized. Called for a reservation and they left me on hold forever without taking the phone back. They are not familiar with the menu. Food is ok but not the same. Surprinsingly, there were no sausages in the menu. It looks very German American with corporate sponsors like Warsteiner vs the original german restaurant it used to be. They even advertise meals in the bathroom which looks very low quality. Hope they get it back to what it used to be. Hope the owners dont rest on past success and take this where it used to be.
The pretzel is a meal in itself. I love their BBQs, live music and outdoor seating. My mom said the food was quite authentic and reminded her of her time living in Germany.
Local paper indicated this establishment is now closed.
We have been going to this restaurant for a long time, and it is very sad to see what it has become. The wait staff is rude and indifferent to the customers. The food tastes like it came directly from a can at best, and the "chef" is barely capable of making a peanut butter sandwich. The selection of beer has changed to much cheaper ones on tap and the selection of beer is limited at best. Unfortunately, it's just not a good place to go anymore.
Fantastic food, authentic German atmosphere!
The food is great but a bit expensive. The service is good but the best feature of this restaurant is the outdoor section. A wonderful atmosphere to come enjoy in nice weather. They have great events also.
Cool German-style beer hall. The food was ok but the beers we're very good. Looked like it could hold a ton of people. You might miss the first entrance though but there's a second one along the same road.
By far the best, most Authentic German restaurant in the area. Sure, preparing food takes time so if you want fast food then go elsewhere but the food is excellent as well as the atmosphere. Authentic German Beer is sold in German liter glasses and my glass was never empty. Wunder bah!!!
We came to the restaurant on a whim and saw the 4.1 Google review and took the gamble without reading the recent written reviews. Unfortunately we didn't get the entree until 9:15 when we had arrived at 7:15. We ended up eating about two bites and were pretty disheartened by the poor quality of the food. The server was very nice and went to get approval to take a little off from the bill since we barely ate but we ultimately paid full price. I've actually never sent back a dish at a restaurant or complained when it wasn't what I expected so it was hard to tell them that we were dissatisfied since we aren't picky eaters and don't want to make a fuss. They did offer to give us a free dessert but by then it was late and we thought it best to pass. I don't recommend this restaurant sadly.
It is a nice place to dine. Nice atmosphere. They also have a according player. Food is very good.
Great ambiance. Live accordion music. Musician is very engaging. Food was plentiful and excellent. All around great experience.
Great german beer on tap in 32oz mugs or 16oz steins. Food is authentic with excellent plating, fresh made. Dinner = two types table bread, house salad, split pea soup, bowls of red cabbage and cole slaw, main meal -german meat loaf, black forest cake..All for under $20. Setting is all wood with row of windows, german decorations all around, large real wood fireplace burning. They had live dressed up accordian music player as well.
Met family here for some German food to celebrate October. Group ordered variety> Sauerbraten Bratwurst Veal ,Goulash....no complaints!!Creamed spinach awesome...sides served family style but u can reorder as much as needed! Too full for dessert!
I wouldnt even give it one star. The service was awful, meaning very slow, and not attentive to food allergies. My meal wasent good. The side dishes were great. My friends said their meals were good. We got our own drinks at the bar, because we waited too long. Although when we complained, the wait er r bought us a round of drinks, as did the owner. So you decide. If you hav er all night to get a meal, that may or may not be good. Then go see for yourself.
Wonderful authentic place to relax and have delish meal and a bier! Family or romance..
Restaurant is open until 10PM on Saturday, as shown in the picture. We arrived at 7:55PM, they refused to seat us. According to an older gentleman (used loosely since he was rather rude, and although there were numerous open tables in the restaurant) he said there was a 45 minute wait (8:40 by my math), so they won't seat us. Again, by my math, we would have been seated 80 minutes prior to closing. When we asked why, he blamed the kitchen.
Great food and great staff
Sadly, this place has taken a turn since being sold in January 2018. We waited almost 2 hours for our entree. Our daughter ordered chicken schnitzel off the children's menu...She was served pork. Pork schnitzel isn't offered to children. The owner's son sat behind us visiting with a couple for 45 minutes while we couldn't get anyone to refill our water. That couple proceeded to not even be served all they ordered. We are HUGE Black Forest Mill fans. Came several Saturdays a month to listen to Linny and have a great meal. They've not rehired Linny, and well after TWO HOURS even if it were a good meal I no longer had the appetite to enjoy it.
Food was good but it took almost 30 min for someone to wait our table.
Food was amazing and you can tell the atmosphere had a lot of thought out into it. The beer selection is amazing. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a bar or a restaurant.
Really quite good. Started with the MASSIVE pretzel, chicken liver pate, and their complimentary German potato salad and cole slaw. Meals were sauerbraten with braised cabbage and chicken schnitzel with sauerkraut, both with spätzle. Very good food all around (flavor, texture, moisture, temperature), but the sauerbraten stood out.Naturally, the beer was great, with the taps being all German...mostly Warsteiner with some Hofbräu-München thrown in (happily, no American domestics...a good sign for such an ethnic eatery!).Ambience is perfect, with lots of dark wood and exposed beams...feels like it was lifted right out of Germany, especially since there was a good, live accorion performer playing polkas (among other things).Look forward to returning!
Good authentic Central European cuisine. Friendly service. But the live accordian music was just a bridge too far.
Great foot, service and a happy atmosphere
Three of us went there. Very disappointed. I had the beef goulash, the meat was hard. All of our mash potatoes were chunky and hard. My daughter's meatloaf was so dry and hard. The apple strudel was okay. My daughter's chocolate cake had no flavor and was stale. The only good thing was the beer .Really went down hill from our last visit.
This restaurant has the best appetizers and entrees. It's easy to find and the prices are what to expect for food that delicious. I would definitely come back to eat there.
I found this place 9 years ago for my 40th birthday this month. I was blown away on the food and service. I returned on May for my brother's birthday and still amazing. Then returned the following year and the food turned 180°. Was so disappointed, I asked the hostess what happened and she had said the owner had changed chiefs. I have never returned and reading these reviews doesn't look like it has gotten any better. So sad
Great German food and beer at reasonable prices, especially at the bar. I heartily recommend this place. The hamburger is different than anything I have ever had and has to be tried to be believed.
